Weatherization project assists local family, teams local businesses

No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted. This is a thought shared by Aesop, but it’s an act of kindness shared by Duck River Electric Membership Corporation (DREMC) and four local business partners who all teamed together to make a difference in a family’s life through the cooperative’s Weatherization Wizards energy efficiency program.

Approximately 23 DREMC employee volunteers from two district offices, headquarters and youth volunteers gathered in Unionville on April 13 to successfully improve a home’s energy efficiency through the cooperative’s Weatherization Wizards project.

The weatherization team, under the direction of Residential Energy Advisor Pat Garrett, completed the following tasks: caulking, installing ductwork, insulating a water heater, adding attic insulation, air sealing and installing LED lightbulbs and other home efficiency improvements.

“DREMC greatly appreciates those businesses that partnered with us in the weatherization effort to help a family in need,” says Charles McDonald, interim president and CEO of DREMC. “McKamey Heating and Cooling, Lowe’s HEROES, Wholesale Supply Group and Thompson Gas each played a vital role in making the project possible.”

Weatherization Wizards is a DREMC employee community service effort that began in 2015 and seeks to improve home energy efficiency and comfort. The recent weatherization project is the twelfth such project undertaken by DREMC employees. The program  has assisted cooperative members in dire need of assistance in various parts of its service area.
