Squirrel causes outage in Cowan area

On June 6, a squirrel caused damage to a TVA insulator, taking out power to over 1,300 Duck River EMC members in the Cowan area. DREMC crews were quickly dispatched, but it took over an hour to make repairs and restore electricity.

“Common culprits that cause power outages in our area are usually storms and fallen trees, but on occasion, squirrels, birds and even snakes can cause damage to electrical equipment and cause outages,” says DREMC President/CEO Michael Watson. “We appreciate your patience while our crews worked to restore power following the outage.”
