A fierce storm rolled across the Duck River Electric Membership Corporation territory late Wednesday afternoon and into the evening. The storm came out of the northwest and dropped significant rainfall and was accompanied by damaging winds and lightning. During the storm and throughout the night, cooperative crews worked more than 110 outages affecting over 7,000 members in all five districts. The most common outage causes were falling trees, broken tree limbs and lightning.
DREMC moved crews across the service area to aid in service restoration. Contract crews were also used.
“Storms and high winds from the north are not the norm for our area,” says DREMC Director of District Services David Young. “The associated tree damage is usually higher when compared to the prevailing west to east storms.”
DREMC employees appreciate the patience of the members affected by last night’s storms and are thankful that crews worked safely and efficiently to restore power.
