Reconnect launch event set at DREMC auditorium

Duck River Electric Membership Corporation’s Shelbyville Headquarters auditorium will be the site of a launch event this Saturday, Nov. 5, for South Central Tennessee Reconnect, a program that encourages adults with some post-secondary education to complete their degrees or certification requirements.

The program kicks off at 10 a.m. and concludes at 1 p.m.

Any adult thinking about returning to school or attending for the first time is welcome. Reconnect Advisors and school representatives from around the region will provide information. Refreshments will be served.

“We tried to plan the events in strategic locations to make it as easy as possible for anyone to find at least one near them,” says Dwight Fox, director of the South Central Tennessee Reconnect Community. “We are excited to help adults return to school, get their degree or certificates and start the careers they have always wanted.”

Right now, there are over 900,000 Tennesseans with some college credit but no degree. The South Central Tennessee Reconnect community seeks to create pathways for adults to return to school, whether this involves technical, community or four-year colleges/universities. Individuals will receive free career counseling, college advice and other support. Services are free.

Employers support Reconnect as a means of expanding the education of the workforce. DREMC is a sponsor.

Reconnect is part of Gov. Bill Haslam’s Drive to 55 statewide higher education initiative.
