We are watching Winter Storm Fern closely, and the Duck River Electric team is prepared and on standby.
How is DREMC prepared?
- Our team will work around the clock if outages result from the winter storm, alternating shifts and working as many hours as allowed, providing rest and meal breaks for the crews.
- Duck River Electric has several electrical construction contractors that we work with on a regular basis, and they are also on standby to supply extra manpower to restore power.
- Our office staff are prepared to pivot as needed to assist our members and provide coverage and support to those working behind the scenes to communicate with crews and supervisors during outages.
- DREMC’s service area is spread out across southern Middle Tennessee and many areas of rural and rugged terrain with a heavy tree density. In an ice storm, the weight of the ice on trees will cause limbs to break and trees to fall in roadways and across power lines, although the trees are outside of DREMC’s right-of-way clearance. This is our biggest challenge– trees damaging the power lines and other equipment.
