Coordinated by the Tennessee Electric Cooperative Association and supported by electric cooperatives across the state, the immersive, week-long experience brings history and leadership to life in the nation’s capital. Students earned their place through DREMC’s highly competitive annual writing contest.
Beyond exploring iconic landmarks and engaging with government in action, participants also have the chance to compete for state-level scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $10,000.
This year’s theme, “Energizing Every Moment,” challenged students to highlight the powerful role electric cooperatives play in strengthening Tennessee communities through energy, education, broadband and economic development.
Leading the group is top winner Robin Porter, whose entry will advance to statewide competition in June. We invite you to take a moment to read Robin’s story submission here.
Since the early 1960s, the Washington Youth Tour has inspired thousands of students—equipping the next generation with the knowledge, confidence and leadership skills to shape their communities and beyond.
