Duck River Electric’s Home Energy Workshops quickly became a bright spot for members looking to take control of their electric use. Neighbors gathered in community rooms across the region, curious about what really drives their monthly bills. What they found was eye‑opening.

Through visuals and simple explanations, members learned how electricity moves through a home — where it’s used the most, where it’s wasted, and how small changes can make a big difference. They discovered practical ways to seal up drafts, improve insulation, choose efficient lighting, and adjust everyday habits to stretch their energy dollars further.

But the workshops weren’t just informative — they were fun and engaging. Members jumped into a lively True or False game filled with energy myth busters and surprising facts. Laughter and friendly competition filled the room as participants guessed whether statements like “ceiling fans cool rooms” or “turning the heat all the way up makes your home heat faster” were true. The trivia round that followed tested what they’d learned from the presentation, turning key concepts into memorable moments.

By the end of each workshop, members had a better understanding for how their homes use energy. They now know how to spot energy loss (inefficient appliances, air leaks, phantom loads, etc.). And most importantly, they left empowered to begin making their homes more comfortable and efficient year‑round, which has the potential to lower energy bills.

Attendees received personalized guidance on their own home setups. Many left with free tools, checklists, and a clearer understanding of where their energy dollars were going. Each household also received a Home Energy Starter Kit, which includes several items to help members begin their energy efficiency journey.

DREMC’s Home Energy Workshops didn’t just teach energy efficiency; they helped members take control of their comfort, their homes and their monthly bills. And for many, that knowledge was the most valuable takeaway of all.
